Trump's 'hellhole' mention for India, China draws political outrage in India: Donald Trump shared a four-page transcript of remarks made by a podcaster on Truth Social that refers to India, China and other countries as “hellholes,” while sharply criticising birthright citizenship in the United States. It makes claims about hiring practices in California’s tech sector, alleging that jobs are dominated by individuals from India and China. It asserts that opportunities for others are limited, though it provides no evidence to support the claim. FORBES

How a Texas City Became the Far Right’s Next Example of the Great Replacement Theory: Far-right activists are seizing on a new example of the America they fear. It’s Frisco, a booming, Texas city home to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility and a PGA golf resort. For a coterie of area activists and influencers, the influx of Indians — some on H-1B work visas, others citizens of Indian descent — is a real-life example of the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory. Under that idea, elites are replacing white Americans — sometimes referred to by right-wing activists as “Heritage Americans” — with nonwhite foreigners in a bid to gain political power. TPM

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s staff has dropped by about 6%, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lost about 14% of its workers. REUTERS

Red States Thought They Could Stop Abortions. They Ended Up Stopping Only the Lifesaving Ones: Abortion rates have increased nationwide since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. When one accounts for abortion travel and mailed medication abortion, abortion rates have increased in all but two states that have banned abortion. Though overall rates have increased, there is one type of abortion that has become more difficult to access than ever before: abortions for medical reasons. Since Dobbs, horror stories of women dying, nearly dying, or birthing dying children have been reported on a regular basis in states with abortion bans. SLATE

The Supreme Court Shadow Docket Comes into the Light: The New York Times recently published a trove of Supreme Court memos that offer a rare glimpse into the internal workings of the Supreme Court’s so-called shadow docket. They lay bare how the Court has held the Trump administration to a far more deferential standard than its Democratic predecessors — and how the shadow docket has enabled the Court to avoid accountability. The memos date to 2016, when a majority of justices voted to bypass the lower courts to block the Obama administration’s signature climate policy, the Clean Power Plan. BRENNAN CENTER

The BBC has examined trade volume data on several financial markets and matched them to some of the president's most significant market-moving statements. It found a consistent pattern of spikes just hours, or sometimes minutes, before a social media post or media interview was made public. BBC (PAYWALL)
