WORST ADMINISTRATION EVER?

Inside the unraveling of U.S. diplomacy under Trump: Donald Trump’s threats, personal envoys and hollowed‑out U.S. embassies are reshaping Washington’s presence in the world. Allies from Europe to Asia are rewriting the rules of engagement – ignoring the president’s rhetoric and forging new diplomatic channels to manage a U.S. foreign policy driven increasingly by personalities, not institutions. Green Card Seekers Must Leave U.S. to Apply, Trump Administration Says: The Trump administration will now require people seeking green cards to leave the United States during the application process — a sweeping change that could upend the lives of hundreds of thousands of people seeking the right to legally and permanently live and work in the US. SCIENCE, HEALTH, AND SAFETY

Efforts to Contain Ebola May Have Been Hindered by Lack of U.S. Involvement: Republic of Congo and Uganda. Public health experts around the world and health workers on the ground say that the response has been significantly hindered by the near-absence so far of the United States, historically the leader in any major outbreak. The United States used to fund robust disease surveillance networks across the region and maintained emergency teams to take charge in public health crises like this one. Much of that work ended with the shutdown of the U.S. Agency for International Development early last year. NYT

Babies Are Bleeding to Death as Parents Reject a Vitamin Shot Given at Birth: across the country, families — first in smatterings, now in droves — are declining the single, inexpensive injection given at birth to newborns to help their blood clot. Many of them are doing so out of a well-meaning but ill-informed abundance of caution. In the hopes of safeguarding their newborns from what they see as unnecessary medical intervention, they have shunned fundamental and scientifically sound pharmaceutical intervention. The trend is also fueled by a contradictory pairing: families’ fierce desire to protect their babies and a cascade of false information infused into their social media algorithms. CORRUPTION ALERT

Trump Vowed to Crack Down on Fraudsters, but He’s Pardoned Dozens: Across both of his terms, President Trump has granted clemency to more than 70 allies, donors, and others convicted in fraud cases. In one bribery case, Trump pardoned a banker after a Trump super PAC received $3.5 million from the banker's daughter. NYT (PAYWALL)

President Trump, family granted immunity from pending tax audits: United States President Donald Trump, his family and his businesses have been granted immunity from any ongoing audits into their tax affairs, according to a directive by the Department of Justice. While Trump insisted the Iran war would end ‘soon,’ an account in his name was buying millions in oil, defense, and gold: According to the 113-page periodic transaction report released by the Office of Government Ethics on May 14, Trump’s brokerage account spent that same day buying a sweep of petroleum and gas stocks, including Phillips 66, Exxon Mobil, and Chevron, along with defense and aerospace names like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics: the companies that stood to profit if the war dragged on. 60 Minutes Reveals Insider Trading on US Military Conflicts Is Exploding: ‘Luck Alone Can’t Explain The Numbers’:  Prediction markets analysts told 60 Minutes Sunday that insider trading on U.S. military conflicts is exploding, and that the soldier accused of trading on the U.S. invasion of Venezuela was merely a small fish in a very large pond.
